CREATOR Q & A | 8TH NOVEMBER 2019

@andthensheclicked shares her story & tips

Interview by KATHRYN CANE

Q1: How did you become a creator?

As a photographer and mother I already have a lot of content and stories to share. It’s a natural progression for me to put some structure around it. The families and clients I work with are interested in each others stories and also in how I manage life and business and what I like.

Q2: What inspires your posts?

My mood and my work! I find writing very cathartic, so if I am having an emotion filled day, happy or sad, I share this. Parenting in general is a big inspiration, as are the social activities I get up to as a wife and business owner.

Q3: What has been your biggest challenge as a creator?

Balancing sharing my own life with that of my clients photos and stories. I have two types of content, both with very similar ‘readership’. I try to keep a good mix of my own life alongside that of my photography clients and I’ve decided not to over think it and just do me and not separate the accounts. That and finding the time to actually write posts on my website not just social media!

Q4: And your biggest achievement?

Staying in my own lane. There is a lot of noise out there both in the blogger and photography industry and it’s very easy to slip into the mindset of ‘I should be doing this or that’ as that ‘other’ person is doing it. My thoughts are that I need to concentrate on myself and my and audience and then the rest will naturally emerge if it’s intended to. I’m proud of staying true to myself and thriving and not playing ‘keeping up with the Joneses’.

Q5: What would be your advice to anyone wanting to become a creator?

Why do you want to be one? If it’s for money, fame or kudos then these are not great starting points. It needs to be authentic, if it’s not your audience will sniff that out a mile away. Share because you feel the need to and because you want to document your life or business. Share because you want to express yourself or have something to say.

Q6: Your fave Instagram filter?

I love the ’subtle’ filter on Instagram Stories. It’s the only one I use if I use one.  Just a slight very ’subtle’ brightening and smoothing one.

Q7: Your fave Instagrammers?

So many, and for different reasons! Top 10 in no particular order @bethsandland @carasuthers @brightyellowcoaching @the_chapmansstorybook @mutha.hood @surreybloggercollective @annamathur @hotpinkwellingtons @blogmebeautiful @gettingstuffdoneinheels.

Q8: Which camera/lighting techniques do you use?

Natural light all the time. Always.

Q9: What’s your hashtag strategy?

I post in the comments and use a mix of ones related to the specific post along with ones that people may search for or be ‘following’. I also mix up the popularity of them.

Q10: The best thing about being a creator is…

It gives me an outlet and a platform to communicate and help. Happy humans are those that have found what they are good at and use it to help others. I’m good at communicating, understanding emotions and telling stories. Being a ‘creator’ enables me to do all of these things. I provide a service not only to my photography clients via my photoshoots, but I also provide relatable content to other mums and small business owners out there. This all help fills my cup!
